ESCORT MEXICO RALLY CAR genuine type 49 with V5 and avo plate. History of the car: I've owned for 2 years I bought it in devon and the guy had owned for 22 years. I was about to build into group 4 spec so had removed the cage engine and gearbox these were sold recently to a guy building a historic MK1. I bought a multipoint weld in cage but its never been fitted yet its still in the wrapper it came in from custom cages. Plan was to rebuild the car with chassis mounted Duratec, fit big diff and gearbox tunnels and then fit the Duratec in standard trim to get it up and running then get the Duratec built. Due to an unforseen change of plans I am now not going ahead with the build so its for sale. All thats needed to go rallying is fit cage an engine, box and seats. OK here's whats for sale: 1972 FORD ESCORT MEXICO WITH V5 STATING MEXICO 100% GENUINE TYPE 49 SHELL. Registered 01/06/72. Built to clubman spec. tarmac rally car. Brief spec. as follows: Bodyshell: Seamweld and strengthened, laminated screen, perspex side windows with sliders, fibreglass bonnet and boot, hydraulic handbrake, bias pedal box, lifeline plumbed in extinguisher & handheld, twin fuel pumps, Capri fuel tank, fibreglass battery box, spare wheel carrier, group 4 turrets, Radius arms, alloy sump guard, door pockets. Suspension/Axle: Group 4 world cup Bilstiens with 4 pot calipers, vented discs, new double-width anti dive kit, twin cam anti-roll bar, Aeroquip brake hoses. Rear axle fitted disc brakes and aeroquip hoses, 3.9 LSD unit, strenthened english axle, GP4 Bilstien shocks, Cd8 springs, Quickrack, Rose jointed TCA's, World Cup cross member, aluminium sumpguard. This is a complete car less an engine and gearbox. 1970 Tax exempt shell. Was a 1300 Super Auto. Modena Green paint. Totally solid - no RUST or perforation. Has had mexico wings and front panel at some point but floors, inner wings, turrets and rear arches all original and rot free. This car has been used as a sprint and road rally car in Ireland and UK. Full SD bolt in cage, Magnum seats, full harness belts (out of date). Aeroquipped and all lines inside. Hydraulic fly off handbrake, English disc braked rear axle, LSD. Bilstein rears, anti tramp rears and panhard rod. Front Bilstein struts, roller tops etc. Quick rack, RS Steering wheel. W/C Crossmember. Alloy centre fuel tank on boot mounted platform, Recent 6 x 13 Compomotive MX's, as new A048Rs. Needs cosmetic tidying to paint and rear offside quarter (bale damage!). Very hard to find with an original shell this good. Just needs an engine and box. Was running a pinto and type 9.
